WIPO
August 12, 2026
Saudi Arabia has taken a significant step in the area of Intellectual Property by joining the Madrid Protocol, the Treaty governing the Madrid System for the international registration of trademarks, which now has 133 member countries.
This addition will be effective as of October 8, 2026.
As of this date:
- Trademark holders in Saudi Arabia will be able to apply for international protection in the member countries of the Madrid System through a single international application, in a single language, and with a single set of fees;
- Trademark holders in other Madrid System member countries will be able to designate Saudi Arabia in their international trademark applications;
- Existing international trademark registration holders can expand protection to include Saudi Arabia.
